There is no escape.
That is the design.
Red Polygon S.T. is building Backrooms Universe, a persistent survival MMO set in the original Backrooms canon, where the world keeps its memory and nothing ever resets.
It runs on Green Engine, an engine we wrote because nothing available would run it.
What we’re building
Backrooms Universe
Survival in the Backrooms, played straight. Thousands of levels built to their canonical definitions, a world that never resets, a body that is simulated rather than tallied, and nobody wiping the server on Tuesdays.
Green Engine
A C++ engine with the game in Rust, on Vulkan for Windows and Linux. Ray-traced light on an entry-level card, physically modelled sound, and a world made of planes and portals rather than one continuous space.
The Universe Wiki
A reference for every level, entity, item and phenomenon in the game: our own edition of the canon, written from scratch to match the game’s behaviour and credited entry by entry to the authors of the originals.
A surreal world that never stops changing.
There is no exit to find and no boss to kill. The Backrooms is not a dungeon to be cleared and not an experiment to be explored in a hazmat suit; it is a place, and it is where you live now. Everything you build outlives you. Everything you lose is gone. Everything you do is up to you.
- 01Lore fidelity. Every level is built to its canonical definition, and credited to the people who wrote it.
- 02Permanent consequence. The world never resets. What you lose is gone; what the wiki says will happen, happens.
- 03Emergent society. There are no pre-made factions, quests, or guided path. There is only space, mechanics, and the people who use them.
- 04Authentic horror. Nothing is scripted, entities and other players are the sharper threat.
- 05No pay-to-win. You can buy cosmetics only. The real currencies are time, skill, luck and your history.
